The Present Moment

Last Updated on August 1, 2016 by Patrick

The only moment in our lives, I think, that really matters is the now. There is no past, no future, it’s all in the now.

Many people nowadays have started to realize this and live in the present moment. They became aware of the fact that the now is all we have because everything is in the now.

Travel photographer Ralph Lee Hopkins says that: “Photography invites you into a world of wonder and anticipation, where it’s no longer about the camera but about being in the moment. And living in the moment is what life is about. Live one day at a time, and make it a masterpiece.”

This is true that life is about this. There is a constant and that is truly the presence around us. If each and every one of us would feel it we would be constantly conscious. Also Lao Tzu said: “Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”

I found another quote by Buddha to be the most inviting to living this philosophy of now: “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

So what is it about us that makes us dream? Are dreams bad or good? Having a goal in one’s life isn’t to be labeled as bad or good, it’s about everyone of us doing what we do, what we came here for. But when we channeled ourselves with the now, things seem to flow constantly and the way they suppose to.

But what keeps us from doing what we’re suppose to be doing? I say ourselves and the way we functions nowadays. Our own ego.

We think about striving to be the best, to having as much success, money and even love in our lives as we can possibly get, forgeting the fact that we don’t need to chase the world for these, the world is already here giving us whatever it is that we need. But we are making this a battle in which we fight a hostile enemy. We even fight ourselves or the people around us like we are separate from them. Fortunately, we all live here equally. Each and every one of us have a place in this world.

So what is our place? Where is it? And where is the now?
