Beauty is in our “inner backpack”…

Last Updated on August 1, 2016 by Patrick

Often I find myself feeling something exquisite that I have never paid conscious attention to.

While I’m out in the field I see things that amaze me and I actually feel the same thing I feel when a friend or coleague of mine tells me of his successes. I feel joy for his achievements and the same thing I find myself feeling once again when I enjoy a beautiful landscape, or a sunset, sunrise or anything for that matter.

It is the relationship with the surroundings, with the environment, with other people, not only friends, family or people known to us, that gives the tone. What happens afterwards is what we are giving in return. If someone squeezes and orange, they won’t see apple juice come out of that orange, but instead, of course, orange juice. So, what we are giving is what we have within ourselves and nothing more or less. This is a fact. So what we have in ourselves we achieved by working with ourselves so I think this is the true relationship, with ourselves. And then, I think, we relate to the others or with nature in the same way we relate with ourselves.

If we enjoy what we hear, see, taste, touch or smell is because of the understanding of what we perceive. The opposite of that is the opposite of enjoyment, of course. Now let us imagine what will happen if we do not enjoy what a friend of ours tells us that he achieved. We would feel upset, we would even say “yeah, yeah.. I know what you’re talking about, but don’t forget that you worked hard for that.. not to mention that it wasn’t easy or that you should do better next time!”, mentalizing everything and loosing the essence of the moment.

I don’t think we came here to compete with each other, but rather to become better or superior than we used to be.
