The Music: The Cosmic Scale of Light

You will have originality only when you are not looking for it.
George Enescu.

This planet has given many geniuses in every domain, on every direction. Wise men and women are born in every country, in every epoch, in every civilization and went about forming and transforming the world. Great people are cosmic people on a scale so large that cannot be grasped by the mere human consciousness. You need a cosmic consciousness for this. But how to dilute oneself in the Universe and in what does the Universe dilute itself, so we can become one, beyond personality, thoughts, afflictions and time?

Many artists said that one should not write music but instead let the music write itself. We should only be the vehicle for such cosmic happening. But I would like to add something to this, for I see it is incomplete. I think that when we let it be, when we let it write itself we become aware of the process and we recognize the power of doing it ourselves at will, consciously. We become the writers of such a music because as we are part of the Universe and the Universe is a part of us. Isn’t this God’s work? The work of a Creator as we become the Creator. Of course, this doesn’t mean we will exclude God, or the Divine, or however we like to call this Force. No. We are just doing it on our scale. There are octaves and octaves…

I think the biggest challenge in photography of all times is photographing light. Most of us photograph it in relation to its counterpart, the shadow. But light is simple and simple our task at hand should be. Plays of light are often misunderstood. They are considered far-fetched in their abstract appearance. Or maybe childish, to say the least.

Many have studied light in the past, because light is the most fascinating subject of all times. We are eternally preoccupied with light. We live for light. We cannot function without light nor can we see where we come from or where we are going.

In music, octaves always return to the original starting point. You start with the musical note A and finish with G to get back to A, but on a superior scale. But what do they all have in common and what is the quality of the sounds that change? One word: vibration. The frequency of the sounds is enhanced every time you start a new superior octave. The pitch changes continuously. Then, you reach ultrasounds, unable to be heard by the physical ear. It vibrates faster, practically.

And so, a faster vibration of light is a more intense light until it fades, it disappears. Many call this the death of a star meaning its disappearance, its extinction, but it is not. You don’t see it anymore because it transcended your capacity to perceive it. Actually, it still is but you don’t see it anymore. It is transformed. It went beyond your measurable.

Space can be seen anywhere as long as you have eyes for it. Originality and creativity are the confirmations of smartly building your work. If you are smart, clever, you will make something out of an ordinary scene, something so great as your abilities are. You become an artist. Space and the gaps between the lights are one and the same as well as space and silence are the same thing. Space is the gap between crystallized words, namely musical notes. Light cannot be seen without its absence, just as Paradise cannot be recognized and cherished without its absence, that is Hell. Planets and stars make music too. They sing it in space.

There are eight perceivable octaves in space and time and on our Earth. Each have seven unique notes and the eighth is the first note from the next scale like an interconnected chain. The cosmic scale is a round trip and there is no up or down though a singer, a performer can raise and lower his or her own voice. This is the diversity of the Universe.

Nowadays, photography has grown to become a philosophy, a way of thinking outside the box. Photography as art is to depict the inapparent, the interpretative in such a way that its artistical aspect is the embodiment of intelligence and wisdom. I think, also, that art is one of the emotional manners of being for philosophy but in a superior way. The superior emotional aspect is conscience’s way of creating and sharing beauty. Of course, there are deeper aspects and dimensions to this. I barely scratched the surface and gave you some definitions from my understanding.

As I gazed upon the reflections of a lake, the Sun was casting these beautiful sparks of light as if it was telling me that he too is comprised of little lights, just as an ocean is made of millions upon millions of drops of water. The Sun too can rain but it can rain with light. The windy reflections of the lake showed me the similarities between the earthly and celestially casted cosmic light. Don’t forget that we live on the surface of a planet we call Earth, other times we call it Terra. I have started to become aware of this fact.

When I am aware of our planetary life I often raise my head and look at the sky. But by looking down I see a lake and see millions of sparkling stars as a gift from our very Sun. Such joy I felt as if it felt my heart with light. Its flavor was that of spiritual healing honey.

When we are horizontally psychologically inclined we tend to see only what we can perceive with our eye sight, physically concentrated and with very little peripheral vision. Our spatial sense is very narrowed. But when we reflect upon life, death, their meaning, the Universe and all, we reflect what we chose to ignore with our senses and thus we become aware even of the fact that we live on a planet, and that there are other planets and stars out there in space, besides our planet and the Sun, that shine brightly. We see their presence on the clear night sky when we gaze upwardly into the distance. Light shines, light flickers and the space… a sort of blackness, but low lit. Can we go beyond the notion of darkness and light?

It is a tough issue to have many questions and very few answers to them. One can only contemplate the question and expect the unexpected, as I did when I saw the lake, I contemplated it and photographed what really attracted me the most: the light of the Sun scattered and spread upon the mid afternoon surface of the lake. Enlightening!
