These people were wrongly called indians because the european exporers have considered that the land on which they lived and they discovered was India. They are a people who live in harmony with Nature and thus, in the eyes of the “civilized” europeans, the indians appeared as stupid savages. But the wisdom of these people was profound, natural and it correctly reflects the interaction between man and nature.

Here are some bits of wisdom from them:

  • A good man sees good signs.
  • In order to hear yourself you need days to shut up.
  • If you noticed you are riding a dead horse, get off of it!
  • The one who keeps quiet knows twice more than the one who never stops talking.
  • There are many ways to stink like a skunk.
  • It is necessary only to die.
  • Before you judge other people’s shortcomings, look at the footsteps of your moccasins.
  • Home is were you feel good.
  • Within every man there is a fight between two wolves, the evil and the good one. The wolf that you feed always wins.
  • If you have something to say rise so you can be seen.
  • Not always the enemy is an enemy and the friend, a friend.
  • Everything in the world has its own song.
  • The child is a guest in your house: feed him, teach him and let him go.
  • Even a dead fish can go with the flow.
  • A word well said is better than an ax thrown at the target.
  • Speak to the children when they eat and what you said will remain even when you go.
  • Everything on this earth has a meaning, every illness has a cure, every man has a purpose.
  • The frog doesn’t drink the pond in which it lives.
  • Tell me and I will forget, show me and I will not be able to remember, involve me to take part and I will understand.
  • Love the earth, you did not inherit it from your parents, it is inherited by you from your children.
  • Knowledge is hidden in every thing. Once, the world was a library.
  • When the last tree is cut down, when the last river will be poisoned, when the last bird will be captured, only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.
