The Art and the Artist

Last Updated on August 1, 2016 by Patrick

The personal journey of everyone of us is artistic and Art should be personal, intimate and of our own. Everyone of us is held account for our own actions, our own creations no matter what art form is used, whether sculpture, photographic art, painting, drawing, carving, music or what have you. Art is our own and criticizing an artistic work, nowadays, implies messing with the work itself, imposing regulations, rules, standards which have nothing to do with the work itself even if they mean to tell the artist what should or shouldn’t do with his or her work.

An art work should be contemplated, not criticized. It should be understood, for every art work has its own message.

Criticism should be constructive, meaning it should help the artist fulfill his or her own composition, subject matter and message. It shouldn’t tell the artist what is right or wrong, as long as it was not understood the purpose of that work. Otherwise, it would be a destructive criticism.

If an art work is a failure or so lame that it would rather be called “art work”, with the quotation marks, it means that the artist is not yet aligned with his or her own inner artistic capacity coming from one’s consciousness. Constructive criticism should help in this matter as well.

I think it should be encouraging for the artist to align with his or her own inner intelligence and thus it will bring him or her on the right path.

We all have a message to send, just like we all have a place in the Universe. We all have a meaning just like we all have a purpose and a usefulness in this world. What is yours?
