The Calling

I’d say “why climb a mountain when you can stay at the foothill, or in the valleys, boasting on your inferiority?”. Tough question, isn’t it? :)
More or less each and every one of us have a calling for doing certain things in life. Some of us really fulfill that calling and others do not. Some people find joy in learning, in educating themselves, and others like to just do nothing and wait for life to pass by them. Others like to dance or to practice other types of art forms and some like to work to gain material possesions.
Whatever it is that people are looking for is for a certain dimension of their self-realization.
But what is true in this world? Are we really sure that there’s not much here? Are we really sure that it is all there is to it?
When we climb a mountain, for example, we spend some time there, on the peak, and them we come to realize we gotta descend. We can stay there forever. We have to go down in the valleys, at the foothill of the mountain again. What goes up, must come down.
What I would say is that no matter how much we accomplish, there will be a time when that accomplishment from the now so-called past is gone. But life goes on. And that is the thing. New experiences come and what remains is the neverending (or so I hope) awareness that we have.
But then there is the so-called, and praised, comfort zone. It’s nothing more than the feeling of comfort that we need to feel, that things are stable and that we can live a peaceful life. No challenges, no troubles, nothing. Just dolce far niente. But that is only a feeling. Our endless awareness should be all the stability that we need. There’s no harm in transformation if one knows who one is. And that is not a question of intellectual knowing, it is just simply being.
I suggest one exercise for you. Stop talking in your head. Treat your thoughts as they’re not yours. Treat your head as a house with guests and every moment these guests would start talking. Ask them who they are and what are they talking about. And after that just listen to them and just be.
Do you know now who you are?
